Hoarding is considered a serious mental disorder in real life, but for some reason having full inventories on all 6-8 of your MMO characters is acceptable? :P
Seriously, I for one don't have horrible storage woes. All of my characters can fit their essential items (second set of armor, 2nd/3rd/4th weapon sets, ID/salvage kits,) into one or maybe two bags. All of my Ranger's stuff fits in 1 bag, so I have my dye collection stashed in his second bag. All of my Mesmer's stuff fits in one bag, so I have my common materials in his second bag. My storage box has rare materials and keys in it.
All of my characters have 100% clear backpacks and belt pouches for collecting drops during regular gameplay, and my storage box has 8 slots free.
I seriously don't understand why people complain about not enough storage, except for serious armor crafters. OTOH, my Necromancer has 3 sets of armor, and I still have plenty of space in her inventory. I think some people are just excessive in what they accumulate and craft.
Bottom line: Figure out what you really need and keep it, and get rid of what you're not going to use. Then this new storage addition will be more than enough.

This update won't help me much at all. I'm not int he habit of hording materials, and I have maybe 3 slots in use right now for jade, and an ecto or shard or two. This new tab is pretty useless to me, I'd much rather extra space for items, weapons and armor.
I really think Anet wants to sell those new character slots as mules though, so I doubt storage will be improved much more than this. I would even be fine with using a character as a mule if I didn't have to sign in and out every time I switched characters.

If you pvp with your pve characters, you can accumulate quite a bit of weapons and armor. I have 17 pieces of armor and at least 15 weapons for my monk, and I USE all of them. This new storage "improvement" is utterly useless to me.

I'm grateful but I don't see why they must dictate how we use it. Is it easier on their servers if we stored materials instead of weapons? :-S

Bah, I know for a fact that it is indeed "better than nothing" but they could've ATLEAST GIVEN US SOMETHING WE COULD USE, and not some novel upgrade that is ultimately useless and more of a temporary solution. Wanna talk about simple upgrades? barholding this wont affect the server overload much, they couldve:
~Increased stack size(yeah all these arguments about bits and bytes, someone from ANET will have to confirm that).
~Superior rune of Holding = yeah, have bags carry more stuff, simple no?
~Storage tab for customized items = lets get serious here, have you guys ever had alot of items on a character but knowing you'll only be using about 3-4 at a time w/o having to carry the rest? I'm not gonna delve more into this, cause apparently too many people are short sighted, oh well.
Point being that any of these are infinitely more useful, I mean sure, a fixed storage for 1 stack of each item will free up a slot if you have some, but its ultimately a non issue, cause craft mats CAN BE EASILY ATTAINED and SOLD. While I know alot of you have had to salvage or sell some of you lesser customized items cause of lack of space.
I know some people here claiming crap like: OMG why you have that much stuff anyway? I only have this much so it don't matter! well... if you progressed enough or have done well for yourself enough, things tend to roll in real quickly, and this upgrade really only caters to material hoarders, while everyone really gets left in the dust. Yes i agree its better than nothing, but for the rest of us, It is nothing, so its not something I can praise or be happy about since I am appalled on such a solution, thus I made the topic.
Basically to explain to alot of you, my main point was "Why the **** would they do this? whats the point?" then its the cue for you guys to come w/ your generic arguments, this update makes as much sense as making savage slash cost 10 energy w/ its retarded recharge. THe timing of this is especially off, I mean factions is not even that old yet, and material hoarding is already encouraged, for what? prepare for chp3? maybe if this was added a few weeks in prophecies b4 factions release, this storage mod would've made alot of sense.

Bingo! Thanks for so clearly explaining things. (And thanks, too, for your faith that we don't pull ideas out of the clouds, but do things for a logical reason.)
Also, folks, do be aware that no one has said, "This is the one and only change or improvement or expanded option that we will ever make in the history of the game." Perhaps, in time, other changes will be made, other such things will be offered. Only time will tell. But you can be sure that the additional ideas about storage options in this thread are definitely worth consideration and that the designers will read this thread. Your ideas for storage of holiday items, dyes, armor, and more, will be seen! Thanks much for the input.

Meh, I'm still unimpressed. People might keep materials, but people can also move them quickly. They are fairly liquid as the materials merchant will give you a reasonably fair price should you need to free up storage. However, a lot of weapons sell to NPCs for about 1/100th of what they would if you sat around in LA and spammed WTS for an hour. And on that topic, where are the trade improvements? All I ever hear from Anet is "we're aware you want trade improvements". Thats obvious, people have been complaning about the trade system since the game has come out. When is arenanet going to go to the "we know its bad" to "here is our idea on what might be better, what do you think?" Don't keep us in the dark on your plans Anet!

I 2 characters full of storage of common materials. You know what? I'm happy about this change. At least it will free up some of my slots for other items.

really tho it isn't it takes alot of money to support the servers for this game and alot of money to pay the employees, you have to think about that, this is why I feel yall should be thankful this isn't PtP, because they sure have every reason in the book to make it that way, but they gave us their word they won't.

The only reasons I can see are..
1) It sells Factions, no need to beat around the bush. I quote your site "Anyone who owns Factions can access this expanded storage by interacting with the Xunlai Agents in most towns and outposts."
Since Xunlai Agents exists outside of Cantha, may I ask why then?
I suppose what Alex said about trade and storage improvements will be made available irregardless of the chapters we purchase being BS then.

Hello? I understand Anet's need to conceive of some data structure that'd probably save on server requirements somewhat. As it is, even the most moronic first year computing student in college can squeeze your "material storage" into no more 37 bytes, one byte for every type of material.
Of course we all know, not so much for a fact, but out of common sense, that a general purpose storage slot would impose greater storage requirements. So we've sacrificed 90 general purpose item slots, 2 character slots, potentially consumed a bit more storage per character due to increased selection of skills and quests, and a meagre 37 byte "material stash"?
I would be quite surprised if anything interesting is to happen later in the Guild Wars franchise, what with your bit counting analness, it is not like we are ever going to have dramatically new weapons/quest structures without having the servers to be shutdown and overhauled to support it.
It is good to be cheap but I guess you guys are just.. too cheap.

yeah but if you really think about it just having more slots for materials is really not that great of an improvement. That only frees up a couple slots for a person like me. What about all the weapon mods, dye, event items (as a note event items take up at this point 23 slots and we still have the dragon festival helm that brings it up to 24.
Storage itself is only 20 slots so right there we are forced into having to have a mule character carrying the 4 extra items. And what about the upcoming events. And look at that, all I have done in numbers is event items lol. Then we have 8 coloured dyes, spare armor and weapons( note some characters can carry their spares but personally when I go to my war riposte farming build or something I want as much space as possible.)
Don"t get me wrong I think its great that they are adding more space for materials since thats a litle help but it still does not help with the big picture.
In my opinion anything that is stackable that is either materials, dyes or special events should be able to go into this upcoming extra storage. I think this would be better.

My sentiments exactly.Again my problem isn't that it is a material storage. It is the fact that it is a very limited, structured, material storage. Let me fill it up with wood or iron if I want to.
